Out of Hours and Other Services

The GP Federated Network provides evening and weekend GP/Nurse/HCA appointments as well as other services such as spirometry, domiciliary blood testing and wound clinics. 

This allows patients to see a GP or a nurse on Saturdays for routine GP appointments, health checks and treatments. 

The GPs can see and update your records in the appointment so it is no different to seeing a doctor at your usual practice. People with long-term health conditions such as asthma and diabetes can also access these appointments. 

If you have recently been discharged from hospital and need a dressing change, wound check and/or stitches or suture removal, the Federation provide a dedicated Wound Clinic for this. 

You must be a resident of Waltham Forest to access these services

Saturday: 9am to 5pm

The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) provides assessment and treatment for people with recently occurring minor eye problems. It is an NHS service provided by accredited clinicians (commonly called optometrists/opticians). Usually you are seen the same day and if you need an onward referral they are able to refer you specialists at an eye clinic. This is often quicker, smoother and easier than seeing a GP.

For eligible minor illnesses, a receptionist may refer you to a local pharmacy under a new scheme which allows patients to access treatment quicker by seeing a clinician at their local pharmacy 

The receptionist will generate a referral to your pharmacy of choice who will then get in touch with you to invite you in. If they do not get in touch within an hour or two of referral, feel free to ring the branch or pop down. If it is appropriate to prescribe medication then the clinician at the pharmacy will do so and a summary of your consultation will be sent to your GP surgery where it will be reviewed by the duty doctor. 

In this way, you are seen quicker (in most cases the same day) and receive the same treatment you would at a GP appointment. You can collect your medication while there and there is still the oversight of a doctor as the consultation must be reviewed by the surgery. 

If, for any reason, the pharmacy is unable to help you with your problem, they will ask the GP surgery themselves to book you in for an appointment with a doctor. There is no interruption to your care.
